Having the presence of IT professionals highlights the enormous strides that Fiji has made in the past three to five years in the ITC sector.

Attorney General and Minister for Economy Honorable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this at the opening of the first ever Datec Fiji Tech Summit that took place at InterContinental Resort in Natadola yesterday.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said most young people were now very IT savy and he thanked Datec for hosting an event as such.

“We have a challenge, of course, in many of the governmental organizations and ministries and departments where people think that simply getting access to technology is the solution, but it’s not,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“We got a team of people working with certain government ministries, for example, to look at the existing processes, we need to fix up the processes first before we adopt the technology.

“So some of you have that know the depth of the availability of the systems we want to actually work with and we need to ensure that we currently for example, adopt the best technology.”

Datec Fiji CEO Satyen Singh  said the summit will give an opportunity to participants to get their hands on with the latest technologies with 25 of the global tech giants and global changemakers from around the world.

“We have the world’s largest technology companies in a single platform to interact and network and we urge you all to make the most of it.

“You no longer need to travel across the world to attend the Tech Expos because we are providing that for you right here in Fiji.

“We hope that you will engage with each other during both the conference, in the exhibition and during our social programs.  Please use every opportunity to share and to learn from each other.

Mr Singh thanked its key partners, participants and vendors for making the event a successful one.

“A big thank you to our partners and sponsors; Gold – DELL Technologies, Lenovo, Fortinet, Arcserve, VMware, Samsung, Oracle, Silver – Dahua Technology, Infoblox, Brother, Solarwinds, Proofpoint, Newgen, HP, Alibaba, Leadsquared, Cisco, Bronze – Trend Micro, Eaton, Pacificomm, Cloud Ready Solutions, Salesforce, Entelar, Westcon Comstor, MTech.”
