Jocelyn Biran, 11, says attending the ashram camp has been a fun, exciting and meaningful experience that has helped her learn new skills and values.

The Fiji Sevashram Sangha’s free student camp, led by Swarmi Sanyuktanand, guides children beyond the classroom by combining physical activity, cultural education, and moral instruction.

Jocelyn said she enjoyed every part of the camp, especially the daily activities that combined physical exercise, learning and spiritual growth.

“I liked the camp very much because we do yoga and lathi, and we can learn many new things,” Jocelyn said.

She explained that yoga sessions introduced participants to new poses, helping them become more active and focused, while lathi — a traditional form of staff training — added an element of excitement and discipline.

“We do aarti in the morning and evening, and at the end we have morning aarti.”

She explained that the camp teaches children to bow to their parents and seek their blessings every morning, helping them understand the importance of gratitude and respect at a young age.

The camp also includes storytelling sessions, where students learn moral lessons through traditional stories, making learning enjoyable and memorable.

Describing the overall atmosphere, Jocelyn said the camp was “very fun” and “exciting,” adding that trying new activities and learning new things made the experience special.

“It is exciting because we are doing new things and learning many stories.”

Jocelyn believes the camp has helped her grow not only physically, but also emotionally and culturally, giving her lessons she can take back into her daily life.
