Minister for Information Lynda Tabuya has paid tribute to Fiji’s media workers, telling them they are “the driving force behind an informed and resilient Fiji” as she congratulated the winners of the 2025 Fiji Awards for Media Excellence (FAME).
In a statement, Ms Tabuya said the revival of the FAME Awards after 17 years was “a powerful recognition of the dedication, courage, and resilience of our media professionals,” who continue to serve the public with honesty and determination.
“Whether during cyclones, tsunamis, or moments of national crisis, our journalists, editors, and media workers step forward to deliver timely, accurate, and credible information that helps safeguard our people,” she said.
She reaffirmed that every media worker plays a vital role in upholding democracy.
“Each of you provides the light that guides our people and our nation forward,” she said. “You all are the driving force behind an informed and resilient Fiji.”
Ms Tabuya said the Ministry of Information remains committed to fighting misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, while also working to strengthen online safety and promote responsible digital behaviour.
“We will continue to work closely with our media partners to uphold these shared values,” she said.
“Together, we must ensure that our media platforms across print, broadcast, and digital promote freedom of speech and empowerment, while providing safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.”
