GRACE Yee won gold at the World Junior Circuit Table Tennis Championship in Cook Islands on Thursday night.
She won the WJC Hopes for the under-12 girls singles and also booked a spot in the 2014 Oceania Cadet girls team.
Yee earlier scooped a silver medal, teaming up with sister, Sally in the team’s Cadet girls event.
Grace and Sally lost to New Caledonia 1-3 in the final. Nine-year-old Vicky Wu won silver in the WJC Hopes U12 boys single losing to David Hammerfeldt of Sweden in the final.
Sweden, Australia and NZ players have all qualified in the junior and cadet singles events.
Fiji’s Young Jun Park has one more chance to qualify for the Nanjing Youth Olympics today.
The boys Cadet team of Wu, Vicky Wu, Young Jae Park also won a silver medal in the consolation finals losing to New Caledonia while the Junior Boys Team of Young Jun Park, Diego Ranuku, Ashutosh Sharma lost to a Russia/Kiribati combination in the final.
Fiji Table Tennis president Anthony Ho said the girl’s cadet team were unbeaten leading up to the final.
“Fiji was unbeaten until the final when they lost to New Caledonia,” he said.
The Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Cadet Boys and Girls singles continue today.
