EACH of Fiji’s 14 provinces contributes financially to Ratu Sukuna Memorial School each year.

iTaukei Affairs Board deputy chief executive officer Josefa Toganivalu said the provinces had pledged to contribute financially to the school a few years ago.

“This school was set up to benefit iTaukei students and keep the legacy of our chiefs alive,” Mr Toganivalu said.

The school was established after a unanimous decision of the Great Council of Chiefs.

“The school is named after the revered Fijian chief, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna,” Mr Toganivalu added.

He offered the clarification after a district representative asked why Macuata was contributing $1000 to the school when it was not in the province.

“We are proud to fulfil that promise and support the future of our children,” said Mr Toganivalu, adding that the contributions ensured the smooth running of the school.
