LESS than three months after his appointment, former diplomat Amenatave Yauvoli has stepped down as permanent secretary for the Civil Service and Public Enterprises.
The Public Service Commission, with the agreement of the Prime Minister, has confirmed changes to the leadership of both ministries following Mr Yauvoli’s departure.
PSC chairman Luke Rokovada said Mr Yauvoli, who was appointed on May 5 this year, had resigned for personal reasons, effective July 31.
It is understood Mr Yauvoli has accepted a senior executive position with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) office in Suva.
“I thank Mr Yauvoli for his dedicated service to the nation over the past decades and wish him well in his new role,” Mr Rokovada said.
Mr Yauvoli has had a distinguished career in the civil service and the diplomatic field, having previously served as Fiji’s Ambassador to Indonesia and as permanent secretary for both Commerce, Trade and Investment, and Foreign Affairs.
To ensure continuity in leadership, the following acting appointments have been made effective August 1:
Pita Tagicakirewa, former permanent secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Arts and Heritage, and currently executive director of the Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS), has been appointed acting permanent secretary for the Civil Service.
Laisa Bolalevu, director of Monitoring, Public Enterprises, has been appointed acting permanent secretary for Public Enterprises.
Mr Rokovada said the acting appointments were necessary to maintain stability in both ministries, “following recent changes in senior public service leadership resulting from the sudden resignation of Mr Yauvoli and the recent passing of Mr Parmesh Chand”.
