Yat Sen Secondary School emerged as the new champions in the under-19 men’s grade at the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship after a hard-fought 28-19 victory over the International School of Suva in the final match on Saturday.

In the girls’ U19 category, Adi Cakobau School successfully defended their title, showcasing their dominance in the division.

The journey to victory for Yat Sen was marked by three months of dedicated preparation, with the team setting their sights on winning the championship right from the beginning of their campaign.

Head coach Tu’i Sikivou commended his team for their composure and determination in the final match, acknowledging their strong performance against a resilient ISS team.

He also expressed gratitude towards the unwavering support of the players’ parents, whose encouragement played a crucial role in the team’s success.

“We had an aim, and we achieved it, really proud of the boy’s performance, and all credit goes to their hard work,” said Sikivou.

The coach also paid tribute to ISS for their commendable performance in the championship final.

In the U17 division, the Flagstaff brigade emerged victorious in the boys’ final, Yat Sen Secondary bounced back in the girls’ category, securing the title and adding another trophy to their collection.

Meanwhile, Suva Grammar School claimed the title in the U15 boys’ category after a strong showing in the pool stages, while Church College Fiji emerged as the winners in the girls’ division, defeating Suva Grammar in an exciting final.
