THE Yaro Chiefs team secured their spot in the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s after a hard-fought 22-19 victory over Yalovata in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
The match was intense from start to finish, with both teams giving their all until the final whistle blew.
Coach Paula Karatu commended his players for their well-deserved win, acknowledging the hard work and dedication they had put in throughout the year.
He praised their performance on the field and emphasised the tough competition they would face in the upcoming tournament.
“The boys deserve this win they have been working hard throughout the year to get this well deserved win,” said Karatu.
“It was a great game, the boys tested themselves, we know participating in the Coral Coast 7s wont be an easy task, but we will be looking forward.”
He adds three standout players from the Malolo team, Tomasi Tawake, Isaia Rugu and Esala Nalobo, showcased their talent during the match.
However, Coach Karatu made sure to highlight the collective effort of all the players, expressing pride in their performance.
Qualifying for the Coral Coast Fiji 7s was a primary goal for the Yaro Chiefs, and now that they have achieved it, they will celebrate before refocusing on the competition ahead.
“It was our aim to qualify to the Coral Coast 7s, so now we will celebrate then get back to the drawing board, ahead of the competition.”
Coach Karatu expressed gratitude to the team’s supporters, families, and the people of Malolo for their unwavering support.
The other teams that have qualified are Wardens, Dominion Brothers, Ravuka Sharks, Devo Babas, Police Blue and Uso Tasi.
