APAKUKI “Kuki” Nalawa is one of Fiji’s most recognisable creative voices — a musician, cultural storyteller, and artist whose work has shaped contemporary Pacific identity.
Away from the stage, he is also a committed paddler whose connection to va’a is grounded in culture, community, and the ocean that inspires so much of his art.
Kuki is the founder of YADRA, a creative and cultural brand built around the idea of waking up to identity, to heritage, and to the stories that anchor Pacific people.
YADRA blends music, design, apparel, and storytelling into a movement that celebrates authenticity and cultural pride. It has grown into a symbol of modern Fijian expression: grounded, confident, and unapologetically local.
In 2026, YADRA steps onto the water as well. Kuki will be paddling under his own brand, YADRA, at the Wai Tui International, where he is fielding a YADRA team featuring former Fiji representatives — a powerful reflection of both the brand’s reach and the respect he holds within the paddling community.
YADRA will also be one of the sponsors of the Wai Tui International, supporting the event’s revival and reinforcing its commitment to culture, community, and sport.
On the water, Kuki brings the same qualities that define his artistry: intention, humility, and a deep sense of connection.
He is known for his calm presence, strong work ethic, and ability to bring people together — whether he’s racing, supporting club events, or contributing to cultural ceremonies that anchor the sport.
As the 2026 season builds toward Wai Tui, Kuki stands out as both a competitor and a cultural ambassador.
He embodies the idea that va’a is more than a sport — it is identity, belonging, and the shared heartbeat of people moving together on the ocean.
