Xavier College booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Fiji Secondary School Football Association Open Girls grade after recording a dominant 9-0 win over Vunimono High School in their final pool match yesterday.

The Ba-based side controlled the match from the opening whistle, enjoying long spells of possession and displaying sharp attacking play that kept Vunimono pinned in their own half.

Xavier’s defence was equally solid, allowing little room for their opponents to threaten.

Coach Asish Chand said he was pleased with the result but reminded his players to stay focused heading into the knockout rounds.

“We will go back and rectify our mistakes. My message to the girls was to play the game and enjoy. We are happy with the win and I’m proud of the girls,” Chand said.

The victory sees Xavier finish top of Pool E, and they now head into the quarter-finals carrying both confidence and momentum.
