The Australian Border Force (ABF) has given five Cabinet X-Ray Units (CXUs) worth about $890,000 to Fiji’s border agencies.

Australian High Commissioner John Feakes, who was present at the handover program at the Nadi International Airport, said the units would assist Fiji’s border agencies to detect illicit goods at key border entry points.

“The CXUs are the same as those used by the ABF and can be used to X-Ray passenger luggage, air cargo, sea cargo and mail,” Mr Feakes said.

The CXUs comes with a three-year warranty and covers installation, maintenance and support, which has been arranged and paid for by the ABF.

Australian High Commission’s first secretary Sean Stewart said with Fiji’s international borders already opened, the CXUs should provide faster and smoother facilitation of processes at our entry points.

“These machines should enable the border agencies in Fiji to monitor and detect goods arriving into the country much more efficiently now,” Mr Stewart said.

“With more tourists arriving, these machines would also enable travelling to resume safely.”
