In celebration of 2025 World Mangrove Day, the team at the Tanoa Hotels continues their commitment to coastal sustainability with the planting of 300 mangrove seedlings at Taiperia, Lautoka on July 25.
This initiative builds on the group’s ongoing conservation efforts in the area with a total of 1200 mangrove planting since 2023.
This initiative began in 2023, when 300 mangroves were planted at Taiperia to help restore and protect the coastline.
Earlier in April this year, it grew further with the involvement of St. Cuthbert’s College from New Zealand, who joined the Tanoa Hotels team to plant an additional 600 mangrove seedlings as part of Tanoa Hotels’ community engagement program designed to inspire young people to protect Fiji’s natural heritage.
“Our mangrove planting initiative is more than an environmental effort — it demonstrates Tanoa Hotels’ commitment to supporting local communities,” said Area general manager Fiji Narend Kumar, .
Mr Kumar shared that the mangrove seedlings were sourced from a village community in Rakiraki.
This initiative encourages local youths to protect the ocean ecosystem and support coastline restoration, while also providing them with an opportunity to earn.
Echoing this sentiment, Tanoa Hotels Sustainability manager Roneel Ravinesh Chand said, “Mangroves play a crucial role in coastal protection, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration.
“We are proud to lead this ongoing effort and will continue to support initiatives that nurture and protect our environment.”
Through these collective actions, Tanoa Hotels’ reaffirms its dedication to sustainability and community engagement, helping ensure Fiji’s coastal ecosystems thrive for years to come.
