NEWLY-appointed Fiji Pearls head coach Michelle “Michy” Parsons has wasted no time in setting out a clear and urgent goal for team Fiji.
Speaking during an interview with Times Sport Parsons said the road ahead for Fiji netball is already mapped out, with September’s qualifiers sitting firmly at the top of her agenda.
“We’re defined by our pinnacle events, so September is the most important,” she said.
“We’ve got to qualify for the World Cup — that’s the real priority.”
Despite in only recently taking up the role, Parsons acknowledged the pressure of time, noting that while the deadline may seem months away, preparation hours are limited.
She has already begun casting the net wide, calling on eligible players both locally and abroad to step forward and represent Fiji.
“We’re literally putting a call out to the world — if you want to be a Pearl, we want to hear from you.”
Parsons hopes to guide Fiji back to consistent appearances at major global events, including the Oceania Games, Commonwealth Games and the Netball World Cup.
This weekend, Netball Fiji will organize a trial for Northern players in Savusavu at the Savusavu Hardcourt on Friday from 8 to 11am, and for players in the Central/Eastern division at the USP Gym outdoor courts on Saturday from 8am until 12pm.
