A simple goodbye between husband and wife has become a painful final memory for a Labasa family after a 47-year-old father died from injuries suffered in a workplace accident.
Machine operator Ravinesh Prasad died early Monday morning at Labasa Hospital after he was seriously injured at work last Friday.
His wife, Shareen Sangita, said the last time she saw her husband was when he was leaving home for work.
“His last words to me were when he was saying goodbye as he was going to work,” she said.
Ms Sangita described her husband as a loving father and devoted husband who worked hard to provide for his family.
Mr Prasad’s brother, Abinesh Prasad, said the tragedy unfolded shortly after his brother arrived at work.
He said the family had been told a piece of timber became stuck in the machine. Mr Prasad was the eldest in the family and leaves behind three sons.
“I am expecting justice for the passing of my brother.”
Police confirmed the death and said investigations were continuing.
