The Fiji women’s hockey team arrived in Oman and wasted no time, hitting the turf to wrap up their final preparations for the 2024 FIH Hockey5s World Cup.

Despite a 45-minute delay on their flight from Sydney to Dubai, the team, led by coach Hector Smith, is determined, fit, and ready for the tournament which starts today.

Fiji Hockey liaison officer Astral Lockington confirmed the team was in good health, noting no injuries or illnesses.

“The team is doing extremely well, there are no injuries or sicknesses to report, and we are acclimatizing well. It’s about 24-26 degrees in the day and goes down to 17-19 degrees at night but we are managing; it just fine,” Lockington said.

The women’s team had a scrimmaging session with New Zealand on Monday upon their arrival.

“We’ve had a training run in the morning and a scrimmage in the afternoon with our sisters in New Zealand, who are in another pool.

“Our Sydney to Dubai flight was delayed 45 minutes and our Dubai to Muscat flight was delayed four hours,” Lockington added.

The Fiji women’s team is drawn in Pool A with hosts Oman, Malaysia, and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s team will depart for Oman today. The side will face Oman, Malaysia, and the US.
