Women set interesting bowl battle

THE women’s teams provided stiff competition for the men on day one of the Rena Distributors Banana Cup competition yesterday at the Suva Bowling Club.

This year is the first time women were incorporated into the competition in its 60-year history.

The Radhika Prasad-led team defeated father and son duo Amitesh and Ishwar Lal by 21-13 shots, a significant win for the women with another day left for the tournament.

Sai Walker’s team defeated Ben O’Connor’s team in 19-11 in another upset in the women’s favour.

The competition saw the participation of 80 odd players with a grouping of forty teams.

Bowlers participating in the tournament were from Vatukoula, Rewa, Nadi, Tamavua and Sheraton.

The two-day tournament continues today with the victors of the coveted Banana Cup to be named later in the evening.
