The Rakiraki Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a woman to 16 months and 25 days in jail after she was convicted of possessing and hiding 0.033 grams of drugs in her underwear to evade detection in April this year.
Vasemaca Dugudrau was sentenced by Magistrate Timoci Qalinauci after her guilty plea on April 23 this year.
The court was told a specialised Rakiraki Police Operation team executed a search warrant at a local residence along Nadugu Rd.
During the sweep of the house, a female officer noticed Dugudrau acting in a highly suspicious manner, and a subsequent search uncovered a small zip-lock bag containing white crystals concealed in her underwear.
Police forensic analysts later confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Alongside the drugs, officers seized three makeshift smoking apparatuses, five additional zip-lock bags showing drug traces, and a syringe wrapped in aluminium foil.
Magistrate Qalinauci has ordered Dugudrau serve four months and 25 days behind bars with the remaining 12 months suspended for three years.
He has also ordered that the drugs and other items be photographed and destroyed by the police under court registry supervision.
