A woman has died in an alleged drowning incident while the search continues for her husband who was swept away in the Navilawa River in Sabeto.
Police say the couple attempted to cross the river yesterday afternoon when they were caught in strong currents and swept away.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was later found a few metres from the area where the couple had tried to cross.
Her husband remains missing as search efforts continued today.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death.
