WORLD Club 7s champion Daveta has cruised through its pool games in the opening day of the Las Vegas Invitational tournament.
The Seko Kalou-captained side thumped Peru 54-0 in their first game and hammered Cayman Islands 2 40-7 and defeated Stars Rugby 31-7 in their last pool game.
The players were also psyched and surprised to see former Daveta captain and former Fiji 7s rep Pita Naruma cheering and encouraging the boys from the sideline.
Naruma, who also played for Police, now lives in the US.
Team manager Eapi Deku said the side was taking each challenge as they came and the aim was to treat all game as the final.
He said the boys had combined well and would be out to produce the goods for the people back home.
“Our aim is to win the main prize and the boys know what is required of them,” said Deku.
“This is our first tournament in USA and we will want to leave our mark after this event.”
The Nadroga-based side is bolstered with the inclusion of national 7s training squad members such as Emori Waqa, Livai Ikanikoda, Mitieli Nacagilevu, Sevuloni Tawake and Alivereti Veitokani.
Captain Kalou led by example winning the aerial contest at kick offs and well supported by Tawake.
Deku said the tournament was a new learning experience for the players and a good building ground for their remaining games.
