THE beach volleyball teams from Fiji won their first game in the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea yesterday.
The hot sun and fine conditions provided suitable conditions for the game.
The women played in the morning and beat New Caledonia by 2-0, the men played against Vanuatu and also won 2-0.
Sera Speed and Iliseva Ratudina were brilliant on the sand and the two combined well as well. The two players are determined to win gold from the Games.
The men’s team of Waisale Suka and Aisea Raratabu have been brought together again to help propel Fiji towards a gold medal.
Coach Apenisa Saukuru said the results from the first game was encouraging.
“Things will only get tougher as we progress towards the medal playoff. The game of beach volleyball is physically demanding and the players have to be both physically and mentally fit,” he said.
“We are taking one game at a time and I think the players realise the importance of staying focused.”
