FORMER Fiji 15s captain Greg Smith is willing to help the Fiji Rugby Union and the Vodafone Flying Fijians.
He is in the country and will be speaking at the World TVET Conference at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva this afternoon.
Smith captained Fiji to the Rugby World Cup in 1987 under coach and former All Black Brad Johnstone.
Smith had played for Fiji on 46 occasions from 1995 to 2003.
“I am an academic bow, but would love to be involved in Fiji Rugby,” he said.
“If I have something to offer to add value to Fiji, I would love to provide that.
“Opportunity like that does not come all the time, but it does not matter what is the capacity.”
The 42-year-old has also played for Chiefs in the Super Rugby and at New Zealand’s provincial level he had played for Waikato in the National Provincial Championship.
He arrived in Fiji on Monday but had missed the Fiji 7s team celebrations.
He said Fijian teams in 7s and 15s were making progress.
“Fiji coach John McKee and his team did very well in the last Rugby World Cup. The team is certainly developing and developing.
“It is good to see the best Fijians in the world are playing for Fiji and doing their best to understand their professionalism. The Fiji 15s forward play is also improving and they were pretty outstanding. They put up a lot of pressure on teams like Australia and England.
Their forward pack is new and something to be proud off.
“I always wanted to make a contribution to Fiji when I was here many years ago. I had been involved with the team and I would like to get back. The first opportunity to get back to Fiji is in the educational context,” he said.
