THE late Corporal Ifereimi Custine Tui Vasu was an exceptional Fijian soldier who served in the British Army for 16 years.
These were the words of Major Lee Wildey in an interview during the funeral of the soldier.
Maj Wildey said Cpl Vasu also served in operations within the Middle East.
“Cpl Vasu was deeply loyal, hardworking and one of the friendliest soldiers you are likely to meet,” he said.
“He served with us for 16 years, he served in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan where he performed with merit and a subsequent promotion is an evidence of that.”
He added he was a close friend who worked with him in the First Battalion under the Yorkshire Regiment.
Cpl Vasu died on November 23 after the vehicle he was travelling in crashed into a van along Salisbury Plain in the south western part of central southern England.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
He was laid to rest at the Suva Military Cemetery.
