Events honouring women are taking place around the country this week in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8, including the launch of the WICAT (Women in Construction and Trade) Fiji website in Suva – a proud celebration of women in construction and trade.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran joined industry leaders yesterday to unveil the new digital hub, which marks a significant step forward for gender equality in the technical and construction workforce.
With a new $30,000 government grant, WICAT is expected to strengthen networking and training opportunities for women-led businesses. The launch highlighted how these resources will help more women gain the skills and confidence needed to build careers in technical fields traditionally dominated by men.
The event was filled with energy and a shared vision for the future as participants reflected on the importance of increasing women’s participation in trades. By breaking long-standing barriers in construction, these women are not only advancing their own careers – they are helping shape a stronger and more inclusive economy for Fiji.
