World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Director, Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr Jemesa Tudravu, describing him as a “true stalwart of public health” whose influence extended well beyond Fiji.

In a message of condolence to the Fiji Government and Dr Tudravu’s family, Dr Piukala said Dr Tudravu’s passing had robbed the region of a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the wellbeing of Pacific communities.

For the past 15 years, Dr Tudravu served in key leadership roles within the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, including as Permanent Secretary, and was regarded as a steady and trusted voice in regional health matters.

Dr Piukala said he had personally witnessed Dr Tudravu’s “quiet strength, generosity of spirit, and unwavering commitment to the people of Fiji,” noting his courage and humility during national crises, health reforms, and rebuilding efforts.

He added that Dr Tudravu inspired health leaders across the Pacific to collaborate, innovate, and remain focused on putting people at the centre of care.

Dr Tudravu also played a key role in the successful hosting of the 76th WHO Western Pacific Regional Committee Meeting in Nadi earlier this year, and recently attended the WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine in Delhi.

“We will miss his wisdom, humour, and deep love for Fiji,” Dr Piukala said, expressing hope that Dr Tudravu’s legacy would continue to guide health leaders in the years ahead.
