TOURISM operator Tony Whitton has been appointed a non-executive independent director of the Tower Insurance (Fiji) Limited Board.
Mr Whitton brings significant experience in the Pacific business and tourism sectors with more than three decades of leadership in Fiji.
According to a statement from Tower Insurance, over the course of his career, Mr Whitton has been closely involved in growing large, people centric businesses operating across Fiji and the South Pacific, with a strong focus on governance and operational resilience.
He has also played an active role in industry leadership through engagement with government and sector bodies, in particular during periods of significant disruption for the tourism and service sectors.
Mr Whitton said Tower Insurance had a long history of supporting customers and communities in the country.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Tower Fiji board, and I look forward to supporting the company’s ongoing resilience, growth and long-term commitment to the region,” he said.
Tower chief executive officer and Fiji board chair Paul Johnston said Mr Whitton brought a strong commercial mindset, deep local knowledge and a clear track record of operating successful businesses.
“His experience leading complex organisations through periods of change will be a valuable addition to the Tower Fiji board,” Mr Johnston said.
“Tower remains committed to supporting our customers and communities in Fiji, and Tony’s appointment strengthens the board’s depth of experience in the region.”
Mr Whitton was appointed following Isikeli Tikoduadua’s retirement from the Tower Fiji board at the end of February.
“Since Isikeli joined the board in 2016, he has helped guide Tower Fiji through a significant period of transformation,” Mr Johnston said.
Mr Whitton is currently the managing director of Rosie Holidays and Ahura Resorts, one of the region’s established tourism and hospitality groups, which he has led since 1990.
