WESTERN school athletes will be a force to be reckoned with in this year’s Coca Cola Games.
This is the opinion of Fiji 110 and 400 metres record holder Jovesa Naivalu after the success of West and East school athletics competition at the Natabua High School grounds over the weekend.
He said the weekly competition had enabled the coaches to identify the weaknesses of their athletes and improve on them.
“For the West athletes we will be competitive at the Fiji finals and this year’s Coke games will be no exception,” said Naivalu.
“The weekly competition has allowed the athletes to gauge their standard and also allow the coaches to work on weak areas that need to be improved.
“We hardly have this kind of competition in the West and, hopefully, the weekly games will best prepare our athletes for this year’s zone and national meets.”
Naivalu also acknowledged the presence at the weekend of last year’s Coke games gold medalists – Gospel High School sprinter Aaron Powell and Natabua High School track king Epeli Batisila,
