TWO weightlifters have qualified for the Youth Olympic Games which would be held in Nanjing, Chinam in August.
The qualification tournament was held last week in Noumea, New Caledonia, as part of the Oceania Championship.
Fiji was represented by its largest-ever squad at the event with 12 youth lifters and seven senior lifters who were using the event to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Weightlifting Fiji secretary Chris Yee said the team returned home over the weekend with six gold medals, three silver and five bronze medals from the open, junior and youth categories.
“The final team for the Youth Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games has been submitted to the Fiji Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) and the Selection Justification Commission, for approval,” he said.
“This will be announced on Thursday evening after approval by the FASANOC Board of Management.
“Weightlifting Fiji takes this opportunity to thank FASANOC, IOC, Olympic Solidary, OWF, Fiji Government, FSNC, Patterson Brothers for their support towards the teams preparations and participation at the Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia.”
