THE Suva Volleyball Association resumed its weekly club competitions yesterday at the LICI Courts at Laucala Bay in Suva.
The round-robin matches resumed after their knockout tournament ended last week, where the top four teams were chosen to represent Suva at the interclub tournament.
Suva volleyball games commissioner Jone Baleilomaloma says the weekly tournaments have really boosted the development of the sport in their association particularly amongst youths.
“Suva volleyball has progressed really well in terms of development; we see that a lot of youths showing a lot of interest and we’ve seen them moving into our senior teams.
Despite not having a development division in their weekly competitions, Baleilomaloma is confident their exposure when competing in the primer division is helping the young players develop their volleyball skills.
“Currently they (youths) are incorporated with our main team, this is just to expose them to the experience of playing with the senior teams, and I think that when you start playing with the best you will definitely start improving on your game.” He explained.
A total of 13 men’s team and 11 women’s team will participate in the weekly competition, an open division has been introduced in the current phase of the competition, to expose new teams and developing teams to compete against the senior teams giving them much match experience to reach the senior category.
The round robin will resume for the next four weeks before the interclub tournament and will resume at the conclusion of the interclub competition.
