WE promised to stand by each other through all of life’s challenges and joys”.
These are the words of newly-weds Krishneel Nand and Ajeshni Goundar.
The couple, who had an intimate wedding ceremony at the Lautoka Registry Office last month, focused on the profound commitment they had made to each other without the distraction of a grand ceremony.
“It’s about being there for each other in both good and bad times, building a life together with love and resilience,” they shared.
The couple had been together for eight years and believe their relationship was founded on love, trust and respect.
Krishneel (Chris as he is often called), 29, is a firefighter by profession while Ajeshni (fondly called Krishma) is a doctor.
Their first encounter was back in 2018 when the couple boarded the bus together from Ba to Tavua.
“I was returning home from a friend’s place, and he was coming back from work. Our paths crossed when we sat beside each other in the bus,” Krishma said.
The two didn’t speak to each other because shyness held them back. However, they felt an undeniable pull between them – later igniting a spark that blossomed into a beautiful relationship.
Krishma describes Chris as kind-hearted, generous and helpful.
“Despite his impatience, he always strives to be there for me and my family,” she said.
“Not having brothers of my own, Chris has stepped in as the strong, dependable figure we could rely on. He is not merely a son-in-law, but a son my parents never had,” Krishma said.
“Why is he the one? It’s because his presence brought balance, strength and love into my life. Chris embodies the qualities of a true partner – steadfast, loving and irreplaceable.”
Like any relationship, the Nands had their fair share of challenges yet with each hurdle, their bond strengthened, proving that love isn’t just about the easy moments but about navigating the tough ones together.
“I vividly recall the day Chris came to my house alone to meet my parents. With sincerity in his eyes, he declared his love for me.
“That gesture, simple yet profound, elevated my respect and admiration for him. From that moment, I knew our journey together was meant to be.”
Chris describes Ajeshni as the embodiment of everything he’s always hoped for in a partner.
“She is incredibly kind, caring and is selfless,” Chris said about his wife.
“From the moment she entered my life, it felt as though a beautiful blessing had been bestowed upon me, like I had found something I’d been waiting for without even knowing it.
“She doesn’t just love me; she loves and cares for my family as if they were her own. The way she looks after everyone and makes them feel seen, valued, and loved is something rare and extraordinary.
“I’ve watched her seamlessly step into my life and embrace everything that comes with it, without hesitation. It’s this love for my family, her warmth, and her ability to create such a strong sense of belonging that makes her unique.”
On how he felt meeting Krishma, Chris said it was an unforgettable moment.
“It was a moment when time seemed to have slowed down, my heart raced and everything just aligned perfectly together,” he said.
“That electrifying feeling when she sat beside me, her smile sending a wave of warmth through my chest, and the endless conversations that followed, all pointing to something profound that she was the one.
For their proposal, the couple opted not to have a formal proposal but instead take this next step with the family.
“As family gathered at our home, the topic of marriage surfaced so without fanfare or expectations, Chris with a warm smile and a gentle nod said ‘let’s get engaged’, Krishma said.
“At that moment, surrounded by loved ones, we both realised that love doesn’t always need grand gestures, sometimes it’s the quiet moments that speak the loudest in expressing love.”
On April 28, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their closest family members.
“The simplicity of the occasion allowed us to focus on the profound commitment we were making to each other, without the distractions of a grand event,” the couple said.
“The stunning landscapes of the Sabeto Nadi Zip Line provided a breathtaking backdrop, capturing the joy and love we felt on our special day.”
The next step now for the couple is to prepare for their traditional wedding ceremony which will be later this year.
“We are deeply grateful to two pivotal forces in our lives: God, for his unwavering blessings and guidance, and our parents, for their constant love and support,” the couple said.
“Their presence has been a cornerstone of our journey, and we cherish the strength and warmth they’ve provided.”
