Weather watch: Strong wind warning remains in force

A strong wind warning remains in force for land areas of Kadavu and nearby smaller islands of Lau and Lomaiviti group, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands of Yasawa and the Mamanuca group.

According to the weather bulletin issued from the national weather forecasting centre in Nadi this afternoon, a high-pressure system to the far south of Fiji directs a fresh to strong east to southeast wind flow over the group.

Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure is anticipated to approach and affect the group in the weekend till the next few days.

As for the forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group, expect fresh to strong east to southeast winds with speeds of 35 to 45 km/hr over Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca group.

Elsewhere, moderate to fresh east to southeast winds and rough to very rough seas.

Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms over Suva/Nausori-Tailevu area, Naitasiri and Namosi, Lau and Lomaiviti group, eastern Cakaudrove and Macuata.

Elsewhere, fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms.

The outlook for Saturday, expect occasional showers and few thunderstorms over most places.

Isolated heavy falls likely and localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas.

Moderate easterly winds, fresh at times with moderate to rough seas.
