‘We ask for patience’

PEOPLE must be patient and trust that development work will reach every part of Fiji, even if progress feels slow at times, says Lands Minister Filimoni Vosarogo.

Mr Vosarogo said the Government understood their frustration and that it was working within its means to deliver services fairly.

“There is a lot of expectation for government service delivery,” he said.

“Some areas may feel they are not on the priority list, but we’re doing what we can.”

The minister made the comments after he was made aware of growing frustration over the slow pace of development on the island despite most government ministers being from Cakaudrove.

“Taveuni is becoming a strong tourism market, and there are projects already underway.

“One is the electrification work supported by the Chinese ambassador’s visit and plans to expand the island’s water supply network.”

Mr Vosarogo said while some communities would feel left out, more development was being planned.

“We ask for a little more patience.

“We’re only two and a half years into our job in the Coalition Government.

“We’d like to achieve much more and do it with urgency.”

He said people should not lose hope.

“We want everyone to feel the benefit of development.

“We know there is more to do, and we will get there.”
