The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union together with the Fiji Rugby Union and the Ministry of Education have agreed to form an interim committee to oversee the running of the Vodafone Deans and the Weet-Bix Raluve competitions.
After weeks of consultation, the FRU, the FSSRU and the MoE have reached an agreement to form a committee which also saw the sanctioning of the two major secondary schools’ rugby competitions.
This decision follows the need to realign schools’ rugby with national governance frameworks and World Rugby best practices
FSSRU vice-president development Biu Colati said, “For us, it was an internal issue that led to what we are doing now.”
Which meant that the sanctioning of their competitions marked a new beginning for the three parties.
“As part of that agreement and consultation, we’ve agreed to form an interim committee to work alongside the FSSRU and to assist them also. It is to also acknowledge the Ministry of Education with regards to the use of schoolteachers and also acknowledging the fact that the FSSRU is an affiliate member of our Fiji Rakavi Football Union.
“We have developed a term of reference to assist the group in addressing a number of matters for this year which includes some governance reforms. We are looking at the constitution, how we align them and the whole competition format as well especially as we look to 2025, 2026 and beyond,” FRU acting chief executive Koli Sewabu reiterated.
FSSRU vice-president administration and finance Savenaca Muamua shared that it was time to make some changes to the annual competition. The interim committee will oversee the two competitions.
