THE Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) officials say they are working to progressively restore water supply to the upper Khalsa areas in Nasinu.
Residents of upper Khalsa and nearby areas had been facing water cuts for more than a week now.
Acting manager communications and stakeholder engagement, Peni Shute said the supply restoration to elevated areas always took a number of days.
“We need to replenish the levels in the reservoirs, which are also experiencing continued draw down as people rush to fill their household storage when supply is restored in the affected areas,” Mr Shute said.
He said WAF continued to supply water carting service to the affected areas.
“For the elevated parts of Tamavua and along the Princes Rd area, WAF is working on a project to boost treated water levels from the Viria Water Supply System into the existing water supply networks for the Greater Suva Area (GSA).”
Mr Shute said water cuts began earlier last week following heavy rain and the failure of one of the clarifier gearboxes at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.
“This was further impacted by the continued heavy rains which causes increased levels of turbidity resulting in a delay in water treatment and production.”
Meanwhile, Mr Shute confirmed planned maintenance activities conducted at the Nayagi Reservoir had caused the water disruption at the Navua Hospital.
“There was a planned maintenance activity at Nayagi Reservoir, which required temporary service disruption on Wednesday 5pm to Thursday 7am.”
