Investment on upgrading water infrastructure in Fiji will require about $8.7billion to 2050.

Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau said this yesterday during the International Solar Alliance (ISA) SolarX Startup Challenge workshop at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort on Denarau Island.

”We have formulated the 2050 plan and all the investment on upgrading water infrastructure will require about $8.7 billion to 2050,” he said.

”So that is something we as a ministry is working hard on not only in accessing the finance but also with planning and implementation.”

Ro Filipe said obtaining new sewerage systems by 2050 demanded the utilisation of technologies that were in the development stage or yet to be created.

“It’s very important that in the international intake, we are up to par in terms of new developments.

“And this initiative of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) SolarX Startup Challenge can prove to be instrumental in terms of the innovations required.”
