Warriors beat Japan

THE Fiji Warriors claimed their second win in the 2017 World Rugby Pacific Challenge after beating Junior Japan 39-16 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva last night.

The Fijians were fast and furious as they evaded the Japanese defence.

Japan lead with a penalty from Naoto Saito 3-0 few minutes after start but was tied minutes later by Fiji’s Jonetani Ralulu.

Tevita Tatafu was instrumental in the Japanese side scoring their first converted try which the Fijians replied through Apete Daveta after a well calculated pass from Eramasi Radrodro. Try converted.

Hooker Samuela Suguturaga scored a try with a conversion in the 22nd minute of the first-half.

Japan captain Naoto Saito kicked two penalties closing the gap 13-24 in the first spell.

Warriors’ flanker Jiuta Takubu scored a converted try before scrum half Serupepeli Vularika kicked a penalty to lead 34-16. Replacement Cyril Reece collected a pass from Eroni Vasiteri to score Fiji’s winning try.

Coach Senirusi Seruvakula said there was room for improvement as they would have to work on their discipline.

“We have to maintain our discipline for the whole 80 minutes. A win is a win and the boys will be ready to go again for our next game.

“These boys have developed a lot and I can see that more players will make it to the Flying Fijians squad,” he said.

Japan coach Satoru Endo said they did what they could to try and win.

The last round of matches will be held at the same venue on Saturday.
