DEANS rugby supporters and fans have been urged to enjoy today’s finals at the HFC Stadium peacefully, with police set to boost security at the venue.

Acting Director Operations Senior Superintendent of Police Wate Vocevoce said officers had visited schools, bus operators and communities to reinforce safety messages.

Through these visits, SSP Vocevoce said, police had reiterated the importance of good sportsmanship.

“We are calling on everyone to adhere to safety advisories and cooperate with authorities,” he said.

“We also appeal to supporters and parents to be mindful when they cheer and not be carried away. Safety and security are our concerns.

“Some other events are happening apart from the Deans Finals so police will also be occupied in those events. But we will increase numbers and we plead to the general public to work with us.”

He stressed that police could not work alone.”We need the community to support us in ensuring a safe weekend for all.”
