WITH all eyes fixed on the Bula FC boys in the inaugural season of the OFC Pro League, another Fijian international, Tevita Waranivalu, is also making headlines after playing a key role in Tahiti United’s 1-0 victory over Bula FC in their final game of round two at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.

The victory was a special one for Waranivalu, who was named “Player of the Match” after dominating his fellow Fijians—dictating the tempo of the match in midfield and contributing significantly to his team’s attacks and transitions.

His commanding presence was also pivotal in neutralising Bula FC’s attacking threats while maintaining Tahiti United’s defensive structure.

Captain Teaonui Tehau scored Tahiti United’s winning goal in the 69th minute following a VAR review.

Referee Calvin Berg awarded a penalty after Bula FC defender Semi Nabenu was found to have handled the ball inside the box, which Tehau calmly converted.

Bula FC had several scoring opportunities during the match but failed to find the back of the net, while Tahiti capitalised when it mattered most.

In the post-match interview, Waranivalu credited his team’s hard work in securing their first win of the tournament.

“Today we fought for each other, we know that today three points was very important to climb the ladder but before that I would like to give thanks to the Almighty,” he said.

“Thank him for giving us the power the strength and for to grab the three points today.”

When asked about playing against former teammates, Waranivalu acknowledged the strength and depth of the Bula FC squad but praised his team for their hard work in overcoming their highly rated Fijian opponents.

Bula FC midfielder Setareki Hughes acknowledged his team’s efforts in the post-match interview but credited his former teammate Waranivalu and Tahiti United for the hard-fought win.

“It’s a totally different ball game altogether playing against my brother Tevita Waranivalu at the end of the day we gave our best at the midfield area,” he said.
