Suva Lawyer Tanya Waqanika has been released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.
Ms Waqanika made her first appearance before Senior Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
FICAC has charged her with a count of publicly indicating her opposition to a political party Contrary to Section 14(7) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013 read with Section 14(1)(d).
On or about April 19, 2024 at Suva in the Central Division, being a public officer namely a board member of Investment Fiji and Telecom Fiji Limited respectively, publicly indicated opposition for SODELPA, a political party registered under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013, by posting opposing comments about SODELPA on her Facebook post.
Senior counsel Joseph Works has furnished first phase disclosures.
The case has been adjourned to January 26.
