Wainiqolo ready to face Barbarians in England

FORMER Ratu Kadavulevu School under-18 winger Jiuta Wainiqolo is ready for the challenge as they prepare for the Killik Cup in Twickenham on the 16 of next month.

Coach John McKee released the extended squad for the Fiji and Barbarians match yesterday saw Wainiqolo along with Tira Patterson, Eroni Sau/ Patrick Osbourne called in.

The Nayavuira, Ra lad was over the moon when he was called up.

“I was shocked, for me this is a milestone to be selected to play against some of the world’s best rugby players,” he said.

“First of all I would like to dedicate my achievements to my Family and also the Mataisau family, Suva rugby, and to all the Nabua rugby management, players and family, RKS students and to all the RKS Old Boys around the world.

“Lastly not forgetting the Saukilai family in Sydney.”

The 20-year-old was a member of the champion Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) U18 Deans victorious winning brigades that made the historic cleansweep of all grades in the Fiji National Secondary Schools Rugby Union competition (FNSSRU).

In 2018 he was a member of the RKS U19 rugby league team in the Fiji National Secondary School sRugby League Competition and also the U19 Deans winners.

In 2019 he was part of the Suva rugby team that won the Skipper Cup and he later joined the Cronulla Sharks and St George Illawarra Dragons U20s as a triallist.

Wainiqolo listed his national honours as a member of the Fiji National Secondary Schoolboys rugby team for the Tri-Nations tournament in 2017.

And in 2018 a member of the Fiji Rugby Union U20 team to the Junior World Trophy competition.

“My family is my greatest supporter without them I wouldn’t be where I am now, they were with me through thick and thin, they supported me financially, spiritually and psychologically.

“For me being part of the Fiji Drua it has taught me how to get better in my position and asking and looking at what the experienced players do so that it can make me a better rugby player.

“My parents are always pushing me to perform to the best of my ability.” He also added that he wants to represent the country in the 2023 Rugby world cup in France.

He also hopes to pursue his rugby career so that he can get a lucrative contract.

“I look up to the legendary Tomasi Cama Sr as my motivator; he always pushes me to work hard in terms of training.”
