For the first time the Wainibuka Secondary School under-19 side has made it to the Vodafone Deans Eastern Zone Secondary School Rugby semi-final competition.

The Wainibuka side worked hard this month to make it to the finals and the boys are grateful for the support shown so far by their supporters.

Even though Wainibuka lost their final pool game in the competition against fellow Tailevu school Queen Victoria School (QVS) with a 19-5, they made it to the quarter-finals of the competition.

The team from Nayavu managed to secure a spot in the semi-final after barely making it against the strong Sila Central High School side in the quarter-final.

The side won 15-13.

The team now looks forward to the semi-final and will reassess their last game to work on improving their performance.

Wainibuka Secondary School principal, Avikash Kumar said he is proud of the team and what they have accomplished so far.

Mr Kumar said it was the first time for the team to make it to the U19 Eastern Zone Secondary School semi-final.

“We look forward to the semi-final and we thank our supporters for their support towards the team,” he said.

Students, teachers, parents and the village community all turned up to watch their team play against QVS last Wednesday at Nayavu ground in Wainibuka, Tailevu.
