The FCEF chief executive officer claims that increasing the minimum rate to $4 an hour is untimely at this stage because Fiji is still recuperating from the effects of recent natural disasters, (FT 10/05).

I wonder where Mr Hazelman was when the minimum wage of $2.32 was being implemented, well before the cyclones and floods ravaged Fiji. I don’t recall him voicing his displeasure then.

Perhaps this gentleman needs to forfeit the perks he is receiving as a CEO and slip himself into the shoes of those earning $3 or less an hour for at least a month or two. I am sure he will witness first-hand what families endure financially to put a decent meal on the table.
