DEFENDING champions, the Vusu Raiders rugby league team, secured their spot in the Vodafone Cup semi-finals after a dominant 32-6 victory over the Nadera Panthers in the quarter-finals.

The match took place on Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

Erepe Batibasaga, the team captain, expressed gratitude to the almighty for giving them the strength to achieve victory.

He also acknowledged the Nadera team for providing tough competition. Batibasaga emphasised that their goal for this year’s competition is to successfully defend their title.

“This year we have a lot of new players, so it’s great to see the talent they have and the skills they have shown throughout the competition, and now getting to reach the semi-finals,” said Batibasaga.

The victory was dedicated to their home in Vusu, as well as to their loyal fans and supporters who cheer them on every weekend.

Batibasaga expressed his hope for increased support as they prepare for the upcoming semi-finals.

In other quarter-final results, the USP Raiders men’s team defeated the Saru Dragons 22-14, while the women’s team secured a dominant 40-0 win against the Nabua Broncos.

Navy Albatross triumphed over the Police Sharks 30-18, Namuaniwaqa Eagles claimed a narrow victory over Ravoravo Rabbitohs with a score of 27-22, and Vusu Raiders also defeated Nadera Panthers 32-6.

The women’s quarter-finals saw the Lami Steelers emerge victorious with a 12-8 win against the Yasawa Saints.

The Police Sharks dominated the Laselase Cowboys with a 46-6 victory, and Namoli West Tigers defeated the Nadonumai Steelers 32-12.

Looking ahead to the semi-finals, the men’s matches will feature the USP Raiders against the Vusu Raiders, and Navy Albatross will face off against Vusu Raiders.

In the women’s semi-finals, the USP Raiders will compete against the Lami Steelers, while Namoli West Tigers will take on the Police Sharks.
