Residents of the Vuda–Saweni Corridor marked a significant milestone yesterday with the installation of a community-led billboard opposing the proposed waste-to-energy (WtE) incinerator at Naikorokoro Point.

According to the residents, the billboard reflected a united community voice and was made possible through collective effort.

“The sign was donated by Peter and Belinda Guyot of Pacific Island Art, designed by a local resident, and installed by Richard of Superb Advertising & Signs,” a statement from the residents group said.

“The initiative proceeded with the support of the Tokatoka Wadigi and their leader, Apimeleki Nasalo, who approved use of the site.

“We know the whole community is behind us,” said one volunteer.

“It matters to them and this was one just way that they got to express that today.”

Organisers say the billboard stands as a clear symbol of community unity and opposition to the proposed development.
