FORMER national sevens captain Emosi Vucago has set his sight on the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
The 31-year-old rugger returned with the Davetalevu sevens team last week after leading its campaign on a two-week rugby tour to Australia and Asia where they were victorious at the Central Sevens in Australia but lost in the quarter-final in Singapore, a week later.
The Vunavutu villager believes he still has a few more years in his rugby career both for the champion Nadroga team and the Vodafone Fiji 7s team.
“I am aiming to be part of Ben Ryan’s squad to the Olympics in Brazil in two years time and I have started on my training program,” he said
He admitted his overall performance for the past few years had not been up to the national level and he was not surprised when he was left out for national duties in the IRB Sevens circuit.
“To be part of Fiji’s Sevens team to Brazil is a pinnacle of every rugby player’s dream as well as this is the first time for the Sevens team to be part of the four-yearly event. Fiji is very fortunate to have Ben Ryan as our head coach and I have witnessed he has brought with him fresh ideas and the result so far speak for itself.
“I know it won’t be easy for me to reclaim the halfback position as there are young and upcoming players who are also keen to represent the country in this position, however I will do my best.”
Vucago last represented Fiji in 2011 under the guidance of the Telecom Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula.
He will captain the Davetalevu 7s team in this week’s Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
