Swire Shipping Fijian Drua player Apisalome Vota paid a visit to Navuso District School in Naitasiri on Wednesday.
Vota is a former student and the school was where he started his rugby which led him to be part of the Tailevu Kaji Rugby team before he became a student of Navuso Technical College.
College committee member Alisi Ketewai said they formed a school committee in February where they planned to have Api as the chief guest in one of our school functions after he joined the Fijian Drua team.
“Api is the first from Navuso to be part of the Super Rugby franchise even though we have had rugby professionals such as Koli Sewabu, who had once donned the national jersey,” she said.
“Our prefects’ induction ceremony was scheduled for Friday but we had to reschedule to Wednesday after our school manager, Semiti Saini approached Api seeking his approval to be chief guest. He agreed to bringing a few teammates with him to the function.
“We thought that bringing Api in as chief guest will boost the morale of students, especially when Api was born and bred in Navuso and attended the school.”
“In his speech Vota highlighted that the same school ground that the students play on today was the same playground that he had once played on and he was in the same classroom as the one they’re in today. “He added that ‘all things are possible with God.”
“The other players spoke as well before Vota thanked everyone for the prayers rendered towards the Drua team.”
Vota is named in the run-on team as outside centre in the Fijian Drua against Highlanders at the ANZ Stadium in Suva. Fiji Drua players are urging fans to buy tickets to watch the match.
