In joint efforts to save and protect the environment, volunteers from various organisations took the opportunity to collect rubbish and clean up the Lami Foreshore at Tikaram Park today.
Suva-Lami special administrator chairman Isikeli Tikoduadua said an expression of interest was issued by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Anglican Church, the SUPers, and two banking institutions and this enabled the Council to assist the stakeholders to conduct the clean-up.
“The foreshore clean-up has shown that there’s a need to continue with this exercise and the Council will program an agenda for the foreshore cleanup as an activity on an ongoing basis,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“It also shows litter challenges on the upper stream area which gets our downstream affected, which is the Lami foreshore, and we are very grateful that IUCN will be analysing the solid waste collected and will be giving us an analysis on which we can work closely with the Ministry of Environment.”
