The level of criminal activities happening in Newtown has decreased after the Hot Bread Kitchen Taonivou volleyball tournament was introduced.
Chairman Maikeli Ponijese said their youths had taken the opportunity to play and had done well.
Police won the series last year.
Red Line has taken the lead after winning all its matches.
“With one more week to go, teams and supporters have come out in numbers to cheer for their respective teams,” he said.
“We’ve seen our youths taking the initiative in training our children and spending time with them.
“It’s all about community work, the family gets together and team bonding as these tournament has done a lot of good things to our youths.
“We’re grateful to Hot Bread Kitchen for coming on board and supporting us financially. In every weekend, whoever wins walks away with $400 so this is why teams are always looking forward to playing because they win something at the end.”
Ponijese said since there was no national tournament at the moment, they would be hosting mini-tournaments just to help the youths keep healthy and stay away from any trouble.
