LIKE the rose that grew from the concrete, the Volivolitakelo team from the island of Naviti in Yasawa broke through many barriers to be part of the 72 men’s teams featuring in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.
The team for the Marist 7s campaign was built on hard work, determination and the dominant principle of staying united and leaping over the hurdles set in their path.
Josua Salaga, the team captain explained it was a long time coming for them; they had to raise funds without any sponsors to get them to Suva.
And being the first team from Naviti to compete in the Marist 7s, it was a tough journey to get through however the support of their team manager Mataiasi Stark and their families and supporters has been a solidified pillar of strength.
The Volivolitakelo side is also the former club of national sevens player Akuila Dranivotua and extended squad member Tomasi Stark.
