Women of Nauciwai Village on Kadavu are expected to venture into a micro business following the distribution of kitchen utensils and cooking equipment by Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya.

The handover was held at Namalata Central School in Vunisea, Kadavu, this week.

In a statement, the Ministry for Women, Children and Social Protection stated that the village in the tikina of Yale was often overlooked because of its proximity to flood-prone areas.

While addressing the women at the handover, Ms Tabuya said the ministry was present to offer them opportunities to improve livelihoods through the provision of items that could serve as an income generation source to the group members.

Kadavu provincial administrator Joji Waqata said the women were also encouraged to capitalise on the assistance provided by the Government and utilise this potential income generation source.

Nauciwai Women’s Group leader Salome Vakadra also assured the government delegation that the items received provided a “golden opportunity” for the women to enter a proper micro business.

The women were also encouraged to make use of government-organised fairs such as the Vueti Kadavu Youth Fair, which was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to learn about economic empowerment initiatives.
