Government officials need 48 hours to respond to development issues raised by villagers, says Commissioner Central Josefa Navuku.

He was responding to queries from Muaira villagers on when works on the Wainua Government Station were expected to be completed during a recent talanoa session with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Villagers said it was expensive to travel to Vunidawa Government Station or Suva whenever issues arose.

They said since most villagers were farmers, they had to travel right to Vunidawa to get help from agricultural officers stationed there.

The villagers said it was also difficult to contact them because of network problems. In response, Mr Navuku said the issue had been raised at district level meetings.

He said work on Wainua Government Station started two years ago, initial costs were around $200,000, and it would take another two to three years to complete.

Mr Navuku said they were focusing on the completion of other government stations on Vanua Levu, the Western Division and Kadavu.

He asked villagers to raise their grievances with village heads and district representatives because they were the government representatives in rural village settings.
